The legendary violinist Midori returns to Festival Strings Lucerne. The highlight of the evening is Tchaikovsky’s passionate Violin Concerto – the work with which Midori caused an international sensation at the age of just 14 and laid the foundations for her international career.

Entitled ‘Reflections’, the programme unfolds as a series of musical reflections and shifts in perspective. Ravel’s subtle homage to Haydn meets Helena Winkelman’s tribute to Haydn, her ‘Papa Haydn’s Parrot’ Suite, which combines a richly colourful musical language with surprising echoes of jazz and pop. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Second Symphony, which looks back to Haydn and Mozart whilst also pointing the way to the future with typical Beethovenian energy.
